Life & Green Beauty Advice From LA’s Favored Skincare Guru

Life & Green Beauty Advice From LA's Favored Skincare Guru | VERITE WOMAN, Spa, skincare, Celebrity Skincare, Green beauty, Clean beauty, Natural Beauty, Affordable spa in LA, Youtube, Wellness, Holistic Living, Hollywood, Health, Female Entrepreneur The first time I ever encountered Adina Diaz, owner & sole esthetician of Natural Feeling Spa a complete stranger told me “she will change your life, she is magic”. As a superstitious, omen-seeking, Los Angeleno I took this as The Universe speaking through said stranger to guide me towards the light — the infrared, pore tightening light of Adina’s spa that is. The wise passerby was not wrong, and Adina has become not only my skin guru, but it seems all of L.A’s. She is bright and warm like the first rays of summer, and she is willing to educate any and all that share her passion for green beauty — check out her addicting Youtube channel where she seeds out her expert tips. She is the ultimate #VERITEWOMAN: a self-made entrepreneur, creative, intellect, and clean product fanatic, and she’s here today to open the doors of her spa and share her story.

Vérité Woman: You have built your skincare haven on the principles of clean natural ingredients, but it seems you were ahead of the curve — what drove you to clean beauty even before it was trending?

Adina Diaz: I was blessed to be raised in an environment and household that acknowledge the importance of water and plants around us. Without even realizing it my family used natural remedies in our everyday life.

VW: Tell me what drew you to plant-based, clean beauty products as a way of life — when did you find your love for botanicals as a cure?

AD: Looking back at my childhood, aloe, prickly pear, mesquite tree, yucca, blue corn, and sage were regular plants in my everyday life. My family would use these plants for not only medicinal purposes but consumption as well. One of the fondest memories I have is when I was a little girl, playing in my family’s backyard with my sister squishing desert flowers to make blush. I would say my love for botanicals bloomed from there.

VW: That is such a beautiful visual, I can totally see it now. You are a well-known name here in L.A. — every time I talk about you at least three girls say “I love Adina!” How did you get your start with your spa in L.A. and spread your message of clean, green beauty?

AD: It didn’t happen overnight. It’s been hard work, passion, and love to get me where I am. I have been in the beauty industry for over 13 years and although I haven’t always worked for myself I have always carried my holistic beliefs and purpose with me. I have been truly blessed that when people to come to see me they want to talk about the experience and naturally spread the word.

VW: You’re so young and have created such an amazing space — what have been some trials you’ve faced in your progress to get to where you are now?

AD: As a female, I felt many times underestimated and not valued. As a young female business owner, I felt alone and not supported. Finding my voice, my strength and my tribe was a trial but I never gave up.

VW: If you could give any female entrepreneur a golden nugget of wisdom what would it be?

AD: Get out of your head, you are enough. You are 1 in a million. There is no one on this planet like you. Have passion, love, and hustle but never compare.

VW: Your spa is so much more than a spa, and you have spoken of your spa as a safe haven and a space of love — what do you mean by this?

AD: When opening my spa, I knew it was going to serve more than one purpose. Without a doubt, it was going offer eco-beauty and eco-friendly products and services but more importantly it was going to be a positive space. A space that all races, all genders, all sexual preferences and all religions could be seen. Absolutely no hate is welcomed.

VW: Living in a city like Los Angeles it’s practically impossible to stay out of the way of chemicals even if we are switching our skincare products, cleaning products etc. How do you deal with balancing these two polarities in your everyday life?

AD: On top of having clean skincare products (Lotus Moon Beauty), it’s a balance of hot yoga ( Modo Yoga LA), mineralized alkaline water (Santevia Gravity Water System), regular detoxing (DetoxRx), dry brushing and a well-balanced diet.

VW: Is there a no-no product you can’t live without?

AD: There isn’t a no-no product I can’t live without but there definitely is a yes-yes product I can’t live without. Cherry Blossom Healing Soothe Balm from Lotus Moon Skincare. I can’t even imagine ever running out of it. It’s my go-to night balm and my natural alternative to hydrocortisone and petroleum. I can’t live without!

VW: What do hydrocortisone and petroleum do for our skin?

VW: If there could just be three — what are the skin rules every girl should abide by?

Cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize and girl you gonna make it in this world.

VW: Lastly, if you could give a facial to any woman on Earth (alive or dead) who would it be and why?

AD: There are two women in this lifetime I would be honored to give a holistic facial too. First would be Frida Kahlo and second Oprah Winfrey. Both women have stayed true to themselves, are extremely resilient through incredibly difficult times and broke stereotypes in every way possible. I look up to these women and the tremendous strength they possess.

What You Need To Know About The Korean Beauty Craze

korean beauty trend, illustration, finding meems
Illustrations by @FindingMeems for Vérité Published

With the nature of being hard to keep, we wonder how most are fairing on those little things called resolutions. To be honest, we think it’s too easy an excuse to be too hard on oneself, only there is one little goal we think all of us will be glad to keep. Taking care of ones skin, it’s sacred…not so hard a resolution to stand by right? champagne popping emojis for all!
Whether you’ve been a little hesitant to grab hold of the beauty industries latest trend, or have been (like us) sweeping them off shelves — the Korean beauty craze is taking the globe by storm. No end in sight. Thing is, we are lapping those slime-based products all over ourselves without much thought to what’s actually in them and why they’re in fact beneficial.
Our beauty Expert, and celebrity makeup guru CK Karkhanis lends a little insight into what is actually addressed on those pretty foreign packages, and why we should be inviting them into our regime.
“The Korean beauty regimen has become the holy grail of skin care discipline, which is the foundation for beauty perfection. The Koreans’ keep prevention, maintenance, and protection at the core of beauty product development, using natural and ‘exotic’ ingredients to create the perfectly balanced beauty product.”

As we gather these companies are razor focused when it comes to research, and delivery. Those “exotic” ingredients CK mentions include the likes of pearl, snail slime, and caviar — does it get more luxe than that for a $5 face mask?
It may sound a little daunting to be laying on eye masks that have been dipped in such elements, but we say go wild. Snail slime for example is brimming with proteins, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid — an anti-aging cocktail. Donkey milk, another reputable for being a fountain of youth. As for pearl, we’ve previously talked at length about our penchant for that dazzling ingredient.
Brands such as Peach and Lily, and Tony Moly are spearheading the spread west, available to you at your leisure via the internet.
CK shares her favorite Korean products that you can shop below!

The Face Shop CC Cushion, $12.26
Intensive Skin Barrier Eye Gel Mask, $5
Snail Moisture Gel, $11.99
Snail Gel Mask, $8.99
Gold Black Pearl Hydrogel Eye Mask, $60

You will run from show to show with snowflakes resting on your lashes, and goosebumps from both the sartorial fantasies and plummeting temps. The Vérité editors have offered up their insider tips on New York spots to keep toasty, while not entirely shying away from the street style photogs.

Butchers Daughter

The Butcher’s Daughter

This SoHo hide-out is hardly a secret, but its sleek white interiors and delicious green sips will toast up your soul while you Instagram all ten of your #OOTD’s.

Perk Kafe

Not far from Bryant Parks’ buzz, but just far enough, perch yourself along the window of Perk Kafe to thaw those fashionable limbs. Between the good coffee, comforting chairs, and fire place it’s the perfect mid-day get-away between shows to gather your thoughts, re-caffeinate.

Peace Food Cafe

Whether your vegan diet is trend induced, or health, Peace Food Cafe is your spot. Not damaging your diet, and producing a hunger-inducing aroma, Peace Food has everything from Gluten Free sandwiches to dairy free, and delicious pastries.

INA

While your shoes may be this seasons Altazzura, your dress is INA designer consignment, and that’s actually super-chic. With multiple locations there really is no limit to how many gently used Prada dresses one can hoard. Heat up your hands, while browsing their endless racks of designer heaven.

Le Grainne Cafe

In the event you are having withdrawals from Paris Men’s Fashion Week, Le Grainne will feed your cravings for classic french charm. It’s also really stylish to pretend you can’t even remember which fashion week you are currently attending because you have so many.

Ten Over Ten Spa

So your toes have been frozen over twice and cramped into stiletto boots. Get yourself a pedi, and defrost those little ones. Ten Over Ten is the perfect way to renew your faith in the world, after you’ve been bumped and pushed by other feisty fashion week goers, only to find your seat is actually standing room, right next to the exit.

Flotation Therapy | Letting Go of Everything to Find Inner Lightness

girl, bikini, swim, pool, flotation therapy

E.E. Cummings once wrote “For whatever we lose (like a you or a me). it’s always our self we find in the sea”. These words roll off your skin, as you float in the presence of 1400 lbs of Epsom salt, soon forgetting your past, present, and future. Floatation Therapy, or just simply Floating is having a moment. This isn’t its first, as the activity surfaced previously in the mid 70’s. A treatment reminiscent of a Cleopatra-esque ritual, simulating the dead sea in salt content, you are soon weightless amongst nothing more than the water and the darkness around you. This is where the notes of therapy wash over you. For 90 minutes, you lose all senses. There are no lights, no sounds, and soon your sense of feeling subsides to the water. After you lose any indication of time, your mind falls quiet to the stillness, and what happens next depends on the subject. You are inclosed, at your own will in a pod structure resembling that of a sci-fi prop filled with ten inches of glowing blue water (hued from the pods interior light which you can control once inside). Used for pain relief, depression, and stress management, its benefits seem as limitless as the 93 degree bath in which you hang. Some parallel their floating experiences with that of being in the womb, only to emerge feeling reborn. Once your session is up, you feel nostalgic for that unplugged, needless sensation. In modern life, this is possibly the only meditative state available to the extent of what floating provides. Whether you find yourself, untangle your mental block, or just drift into the silence — floating provides an addictive sensation of renewal.
