The first time I ever encountered Adina Diaz, owner & sole esthetician of Natural Feeling Spa a complete stranger told me “she will change your life, she is magic”. As a superstitious, omen-seeking, Los Angeleno I took this as The Universe speaking through said stranger to guide me towards the light — the infrared, pore tightening light of Adina’s spa that is. The wise passerby was not wrong, and Adina has become not only my skin guru, but it seems all of L.A’s. She is bright and warm like the first rays of summer, and she is willing to educate any and all that share her passion for green beauty — check out her addicting Youtube channel where she seeds out her expert tips. She is the ultimate #VERITEWOMAN: a self-made entrepreneur, creative, intellect, and clean product fanatic, and she’s here today to open the doors of her spa and share her story.
Vérité Woman: You have built your skincare haven on the principles of clean natural ingredients, but it seems you were ahead of the curve — what drove you to clean beauty even before it was trending?
Adina Diaz: I was blessed to be raised in an environment and household that acknowledge the importance of water and plants around us. Without even realizing it my family used natural remedies in our everyday life.
VW: Tell me what drew you to plant-based, clean beauty products as a way of life — when did you find your love for botanicals as a cure?
AD: Looking back at my childhood, aloe, prickly pear, mesquite tree, yucca, blue corn, and sage were regular plants in my everyday life. My family would use these plants for not only medicinal purposes but consumption as well. One of the fondest memories I have is when I was a little girl, playing in my family’s backyard with my sister squishing desert flowers to make blush. I would say my love for botanicals bloomed from there.
VW: That is such a beautiful visual, I can totally see it now. You are a well-known name here in L.A. — every time I talk about you at least three girls say “I love Adina!” How did you get your start with your spa in L.A. and spread your message of clean, green beauty?
AD: It didn’t happen overnight. It’s been hard work, passion, and love to get me where I am. I have been in the beauty industry for over 13 years and although I haven’t always worked for myself I have always carried my holistic beliefs and purpose with me. I have been truly blessed that when people to come to see me they want to talk about the experience and naturally spread the word.
VW: You’re so young and have created such an amazing space — what have been some trials you’ve faced in your progress to get to where you are now?
AD: As a female, I felt many times underestimated and not valued. As a young female business owner, I felt alone and not supported. Finding my voice, my strength and my tribe was a trial but I never gave up.
VW: If you could give any female entrepreneur a golden nugget of wisdom what would it be?
AD: Get out of your head, you are enough. You are 1 in a million. There is no one on this planet like you. Have passion, love, and hustle but never compare.
VW: Your spa is so much more than a spa, and you have spoken of your spa as a safe haven and a space of love — what do you mean by this?
AD: When opening my spa, I knew it was going to serve more than one purpose. Without a doubt, it was going offer eco-beauty and eco-friendly products and services but more importantly it was going to be a positive space. A space that all races, all genders, all sexual preferences and all religions could be seen. Absolutely no hate is welcomed.
VW: Living in a city like Los Angeles it’s practically impossible to stay out of the way of chemicals even if we are switching our skincare products, cleaning products etc. How do you deal with balancing these two polarities in your everyday life?
AD: On top of having clean skincare products (Lotus Moon Beauty), it’s a balance of hot yoga ( Modo Yoga LA), mineralized alkaline water (Santevia Gravity Water System), regular detoxing (DetoxRx), dry brushing and a well-balanced diet.
VW: Is there a no-no product you can’t live without?
AD: There isn’t a no-no product I can’t live without but there definitely is a yes-yes product I can’t live without. Cherry Blossom Healing Soothe Balm from Lotus Moon Skincare. I can’t even imagine ever running out of it. It’s my go-to night balm and my natural alternative to hydrocortisone and petroleum. I can’t live without!
VW: What do hydrocortisone and petroleum do for our skin?
VW: If there could just be three — what are the skin rules every girl should abide by?
Cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize and girl you gonna make it in this world.
VW: Lastly, if you could give a facial to any woman on Earth (alive or dead) who would it be and why?
AD: There are two women in this lifetime I would be honored to give a holistic facial too. First would be Frida Kahlo and second Oprah Winfrey. Both women have stayed true to themselves, are extremely resilient through incredibly difficult times and broke stereotypes in every way possible. I look up to these women and the tremendous strength they possess.
