Skincare adds up. I don’t have to tell you that, I’m preaching to the choir. That’s why when I got wind of The Ordinary — a line of products where the average price is about $12.90 I was all kinds of curious (and honestly a little pessimistic).  So like the good skinvestigator that I am, I filled our cart with their pretty little bottles and set out to get to the bottom of these budget friendly options.
I started with a good variety of skin needs: Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% (30ml) Vitamin C Brightening Serum by The Ordinary for a good dose of brightening Vitamin C and light anti-aging, The Ordinary Peeling Solution 30ml AHA 30% + BHA 2% to get deep into our pores and clear out dirt and dead skin, The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Previously Advanced Retinoid 2%), 30ml to jump-start a preventative process for wrinkles, and The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 30ml for multi-depth hydration. I have naturally dry skin, but living in the desert — forget it. My thinking behind these choices was specifically hydration, hydration, hydration with a side of ageless.

After a three month trial period of daily use, I found that The Ordinary’s products had quickly became my favored choices. I realized while we’ve all been hoarding moisturizers, those seem to only penetrate the top of the skin, while acids and serums were doing the hard work and going deep. My skin still runs dry, but these immediately leave it plumper, and visibly lush. While many retinoids can be pervasive, this one was gentle and never left me peeling. With further digging, I found that the brand was owned by DECIEM, and all products are backed by a whole lot of science. In a world where we could spend entire paychecks on an overnight mask, The Ordinary is very welcome to join the ranks of our #shelfies!
