I’ve taken it upon myself to find the best beautifying products the country over that I can stuff into my carry-on and return home with, announcing with each bottle and tube “the Holy Grail of French beauty products”. Ironically, you hardly have to look further than the loved-by-all-including-me Monoprix. This is essentially the spot for all your needs from world-renowned 5 euro wine, to luxe yogurt, and of course beauty buys. It truly gives Disneyland a run for its money as the happiest place on earth. While we don’t have the luck of being graced with such an establishment in the USA, the internet is a magnificent place where in just a few clicks or our given links you can order the below imports. French Girl approved.

BIODERMA Sensibio H2O Micellar Water 16.7 fl oz

This will quickly become one of those products you simply can’t live without — trust me, it happened to me firsthand. Never a fan of those highly chemical, alcohol filled makeup removers, Bioderma’s H20 Micellar Water was exactly what I was searching very far and wide for. Who knew it was sitting on the shelves of the Monoprix this whole time. It breaks down even the toughest makeup, and wipes it off without extra tugging at those lashes! No need to wash it off after, you can just leave those delicious ingredients to soak in!

Huile Prodigieuse Multi Usage Dry Oil 100ml/3.3oz

Another life changer: Nuxe is a brand well loved, and passed down form grandmother, to mother, to chic French girl you follow on Instagram. I don’t think I’ve ever met a Francophile that doesn’t use Huile Prodigieuse. To tame frizzy hair and give it extra shine, or to hydrate skin — you’ll be savoring it like it’s a bottle of pure gold.

Marvis Whitening Mint Toothpaste, 3.8 ouncesA brilliant smile is another charm this country wields so well. Marvis is not only the chicest tube of toothpaste you could possibly grace your bathroom with, it also delivers what it promises.

Klorane Shampoo with Mango Butter – Dry Hair , 13.5 fl. oz.

Once finding myself in a small French town, sans shampoo and with a well-traveled matted do — I took refuge in the Pharmacy trying to find something to help me out. I just randomly grabbed a bottle of Klorane and am so glad I did! Doing further research this is well-loved by all Francophones, and Europeans alike! It’s hydrating, smells divine, and does the job when your Provincial French shower head doesn’t!

Eau Thermale Avène Rich Compensating Cream, 1.7 fl. oz.

Beret’s off to another cult favorite. This rich, moisturizing cream can be found in just about any Monoprix or Pharmacy, but don’t confuse it’s commonality for being low-grade. Avène’s secret ingredient is Thermal Spring Water which keeps Frenchie’s looking sprite and youthful even in the hottest summer months.

Eau Thermale Avène Cold Cream Lip Cream, 0.4 oz.

Another Avène treat is this lip cream that keeps mouths ready for French kissing at all times! It also contains that Thermal Spring Water that works wonders on dry derm. Save yourself from buying more products than needed and double this one up as an eye cream before bed!

Sanoflore Aluminium Salt-Free Deodorant 50Ml

Not able to pinpoint exactly what it is that makes French deodorant so much better than North American, Sanoflore seems to be the local choice. It doesn’t have any of those yucky ingredients like aluminum, and smells divine!11 French Girl Approved Products You Need To Buy Online! NUXE Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm

Oh, you thought we were done with Nuxe? We’re never done. This lip cream can be a little pricey to get state-side but it is so incredibly worth the silky soft lips. Using this nightly helps eliminate the wrinkles that can appear around your lips if you partake in any of those Parisienne activities such as smoking cigarettes, or an influx of kissing!

Roge Cavailles Extra-Mild Superfatted Soap 250g

If you were to peek into any woman’s shower in France you would more than likely see a bar of this resting on her shelf. It’s non-drying, soft on the skin, and has a smell that’s nostalgic of those beauty addicts that came before!11 French Girl Approved Products You Need To Buy Online! La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Face Sunscreen, Ultra-Light Fluid SPF 60 with Antioxidants, 1.7 Fl. Oz.

Often topping the lists of best SPF, this face sunscreen is perfect for long days à la plage. Since daily sunscreen application is highly suggested, you’ll never find yourself without this one again!

Embryolisse Concentrated Lait Cream 75 ml
This luxurious cream may appear unassuming, however it brings so many purposes to your skincare routine. Use as a long lasting moisturizer, as a gentle makeup remover, or a protective hand cream for the girl on the go! This one is another classic that generations swear by!

After your morning shower, before bed, even a mid-day pick me up. That’s why we’ve scanned the scene, tried a few ourselves (someone has to take on for the team), and picked our best finds for every budget! By now you know the drill: clean ingredients, cruelty free, industry friendly.

  1. Pai Rosehip Bioregenerate Oil, $40
Upon further research we came to the conclusion that $40 is a pretty standard price for a facial oil. These jars may be small but they are mighty in beneficial ingredients. Pai Rosehip Bioregenerate Oil is an industry favorite (it just made Into The Gloss’s Top 3 List), and is known for brimming with those vitamins that enrich the youth and supple character your skin deserves. One of our Pia hooked readers adds, “It’s hydrating with all the omegas but not too oily and it’s really good for redness and irritation”. Sold.

  2. Rodin Jasmine & Neroli Face Oil, $170
This jar of joy is a bit of an investment — but holy cow is it worth it. Featuring two of our very favorite ingredients, Jasmine and Neroli, you’ll want this to second as your perfume. Linda Rodin just happens to be the lady we look up to most — being in her late 60’s and still looking bomb, we’ll do anything she tells us to. Made up of an abundance of natural oils from the world over, this is the closest thing shy of a beauty IV straight to the blood stream you can get your hands on.The Best Face Oils On The Market, For Every Price Range!, NOW ON VERITE PUBLISHED --- Facial oil, Pai, Herbivore Botanicals, Credo, Violet Grey, Glossier, Into The Gloss, Emily Weiss, Linda Rodin, Rodin, Best Face Serum, anti-aging, omega, fatty acids, hyaluronic Acid.
  3. Glossier Super Bounce Skin Serum, $28
Although this pick is technically a serum, it does many of the same beneficial things as an oil, and has many of the same characteristics. Hyaluronic acid is a savior for replenishing that ‘bounce’ (hence the name) back into dry, weathered derm. It’s a substance natural to our joints and skin, but as we age we lose it’s elasticity — Glossier wants to give back what is rightly yours.

  5. Willow Mayer Beauty Bahia Vitality Marula Face Oil, $25
The name may be a mouthful, but the dropper will deliver a face-full of good. This product is a great way to lock in moisture to dry skin, and set it up for a full day of glowing. Budget friendly, and proven to be a shopper favorite, it has a lot of the great ingredients that we see in other face oils for a lower price point.
  6. Herbivore Botanicals Citrine Body Oil, $44
Technically a body oil, we’ve fearlessly been putting this on our faces for years and guess what? It works wonders! The scent of this oil is highly addictive, and conjures memories of summer evenings in LA under the citrus trees. Full of good fatty acids, this moisture is the kind that doesn’t just sit atop the skin, but within it.

Words and images by Michaela d’Artois.

It’s in my roots to be what I call a kitchen beautician. My mother is one in her own right, always passing on her knowledge — olive oil acts as food for the cuticles and eyelashes when needing length and strength. A glass of whole milk in the bath makes for a wonderful skin cure. Coffee grounds are your best exfoliant. Steeped green tea bags wake sleepy eyes. Thus, it’s only natural that many of my beauty routines do not come in a pretty package, but from the pantry. Cue my ultimate beauty secret, a hybrid concoction of this knowledge and my studies of ayurvedic medicine — The Everyday Queen Mask.

This face mask is truly made for a queen (you’ll find out why in a second) and is made up of three exotic yet easy ingredients that in their own right gift skin with nourishment, and a proper glow — we may have found the fountain of youth here people! This is a mask that I turn to once a week (twice if I’ve been traveling or in the sun an extensive amount). Depending on how much of your body you would like to cover in this dreamy potion, we’ve included measurements providing enough for face, neck, and the back of your hands — essentially all the places that suffer most from harsh elements, sun damage, and aging. On that note, let me introduce you to the trifecta:Is This At Home Face Mask The Fountain of Youth? Vérité's Founder Shares Her Most Secret Beauty Tip! 1 tbsp Raw Honey: This sweet ingredient is the basis of the lush mask not only for its beneficial elements but also because raw honey’s coarse texture acts as an amazing exfoliant for wiping away dead skin cells, and build-up that sits atop our pores. Also adding to this cleansing process is it’s ability to work as an antibacterial and anti-fungal — working wonders on acne. The raw honey is insanely moisturizing, leaving skin with a plump, succulent feel for hours after the mask has been washed away. I prefer the 365 Whole Foods Mountain Forest Organic Raw honey US Grade A.

Half tsp (or product provided spoon full) Royal Jelly: this ingredient is truly lush, and royal indeed — royal jelly is produced in bee hives to feed the Queen during her life span. In the beauty world it is said to have magical anti-aging powers. Naturally containing silicon and anti-oxidants, royal jelly will increase the collagen produced in your cells, which literally slows the aging process. It is also brimming with lots of other great things like enzymes, zinc, and all kinds of B vitamins. It can get pricey to pick up at the store, but purchasing from a certified brand such as this one is worth it’s weight in gold.Is This At Home Face Mask The Fountain of Youth? A few splashes of Rose Water: I have written about rose water time extensively because it has so many amazing benefits for our complexions (I use it daily, especially when returning from long jaunts in the sun). It too acts as an antibacterial, but further its anti-inflammatory aspects diminish redness or swelling from our exterior, and act as a natural SPF. It is calming to skin that has been through the ringer — like a vacation for your pores. I live off of Santa Maria Novella’s Acqua Di Rose. If you want to stick with the entirely natural ingredients you can make your own rose water by crushing fresh organic rose petals into the mixture.

Mix these three with a spoon in a bowl until the honey melts into the rose water, and apply with fingers to areas of need.

Anti-Aging, Acne, & Botox — We Asked A Skin Expert All The Questions Burning Inside of You!

Anti-Aging, Acne, & Botox — We Asked A Skin Expert All The Questions Burning Inside of You! NOW ON VERITE PUBLISHED, Skincare, Beauty, Anti Aging, Preventative Beauty, Preventative Skincare, Beverly Hills, MD, Botox, Laser Treatments, Los Angeles, Plastic Surgeon, LA, Hollywood, Skin Secrets.
Skin can be so damn confusing, why? Because each of our exteriors are tailor made just for us. Sounds chic, but what it really means is there’s no one right answer for everyone when it comes to its mysteries and maintenance. There are however a few proven guidelines, that if followed can extensively aid in caring for yourself, and in slowing the aging process even just a little. We got ahold of Ursula Diaz, Beverly Hills Beauty Expert, and Co-Founder of Honor MD — a three step skincare regime crafted to make you radiate — to ask her all those beauty questions we know you want answers to!

VÉRITÉ: How can women in their early twenties begin preventative aging in their skincare regimes?

URSULA DIAZ: The best thing women in their twenties can do to prevent signs of premature aging is to add sunscreen and antioxidants to their daily skin care regimen. Studies have shown that the sun’s damaging UV rays are responsible for approximately 80% of visible signs of aging on the face. i.e. wrinkles, uneven skin tone and hyper-pigmentation (brown spots). Applying sunscreen to your face, neck, and chest daily will not only prevent signs of aging, but it will also prevent skin cancer. By applying topical antioxidants to the skin like vitamin c protects the skin from free radical damage caused by pollution and they also add an extra layer of UV protection.
My two favorites are Protect SPF 45 and Renew vitamin C serum by Honor MD.  Protect is great physical sunscreen that is good for all skin types and contains hydrating hyaluronic acid. Renew is a powerful antioxidant serum that contains 15% vitamin C, vitamin E and ferulic acid. Renew not only prevents premature signs of aging it also helps to reverse any existing lines and dark spots.

V: How is pollution in our cities harmful to our skin and it’s aging process?

UD: Pollution breaks down collagen in the skin, causes inflammation and can impair healthy cell function. This process will eventually lead to wrinkles, skin laxity (the lose of elasticity) and discoloration.

V: Does pollution speed up the aging process?

UD: Yes, pollution does speed up the aging process by causing free radical damage to the skin. Free radicals are highly reactive molecules that cause damage to cell membranes, lipids, proteins and DNA. This damage results in inflammation, wrinkles, brown spots and overall bad skin quality. If you live in a heavily polluted city like Los Angeles it is imperative to clean your skin everyday and protect it with antioxidants and sunscreen. The Honor System Anti-Aging by Honor MD is a simple and effective skin care regimen that prevents and treats signs of aging.

V: What can girls who don’t feel comfortable with / or ready for Botox do to prevent wrinkles and lines?

UD: The first line of defense for preventing wrinkles and lines should be skincare.  Sunscreen, antioxidants and retinol are musts and should be used in conjunction with any in-office treatments, even Botox.
Two excellent Botox alternative treatments are Microneedling and the Clear and Brilliant laser. Micro-needling rejuvenates the skin by creating “micro” punctures in the epidermis (top layer of the skin), which stimulates the skin’s self-repair or wound healing process. This natural process creates increased collagen and elastin production over time. Micro-needling not only reduces signs of aging, but it’s also great for correcting texture issues such as mild acne scarring.
The Clear and Brilliant is a non-ablative laser treatment that helps treat and prevent early signs of aging from the inside out. It uses laser energy to make focused stimulation sites to replace damaged cells with healthy younger looking skin. It is a great treatment for preventing and treating wrinkles and also helps to diminish the appearance of brown spots. I love both of these treatments because they are effective, have minimal downtime and leave the skin with a radiant glow. Both are available here at our practice in Beverly Hills.

Anti-Aging, Acne, & Botox — We Asked A Skin Expert All The Questions Burning Inside of You! NOW ON VERITE PUBLISHED, Skincare, Beauty, Anti Aging, Preventative Beauty, Preventative Skincare, Beverly Hills, MD, Botox, Laser Treatments, Los Angeles, Plastic Surgeon, LA, Hollywood, Skin Secrets.V: At what age would you suggest women begin Botox?

UD: According to expert injector and Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon Dr. John Diaz, early 30s is a good time to start getting Botox treatments. However, there are other factors besides age, like the extent of visible signs of aging and skin quality that should be taken into consideration when deciding when to start getting Botox treatments.  Women who take great care of their skin and use sun protection daily can typically wait longer to get Botox or need much less of it, than women who have neglected their skin or who are sun worshipers.
Generally, if you have lines at rest (when you are not speaking or making a facial expression) then you would likely benefit from Botox injections. I think people misunderstand or misuse the term “preventative Botox.” Someone that does not have lines at rest does not need Botox. If you do have lines at rest, but they are not very deep it good to treat them before the wrinkles become very pronounced. This way you prevent them from becoming deep wrinkles and you will need less Botox over time.

V: How do you feel about dermarollers?

UD: I think dermarollers can be extremely effective, but can do more harm than good if not used properly. They can improve skin texture (over time) and they can help skin care products penetrate the skin better, but if not used correctly they can tear the skin, which could lead to scarring. I would suggest having it done in a dermatologist or plastic surgeon’s office with a skin care professional.  Alternatively, you could try microneedling treatments. Micro-needling is a much stronger version of this same treatment making it more effective.

V: What lifestyle shifts do you suggest on top of good skincare for preventative measures?

UD: Eating a healthy balanced diet rich in vitamins and antioxidants can do wonders for the skin. Adding skin boosting vitamin supplements like vitamins A, B C, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial for beautiful skin from the inside out. Exercising helps nourish skin cells and eliminate toxins from the body. Lastly, getting plenty sleep is imperative for beautiful, healthy skin.

V: Let’s talk acne, I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter lately about cystic pimples, what exactly are they?

UD: Acne develops when hair follicles or pores become clogged by oil and dead skin cells. Once the pore is clogged, and the bacteria that is present in the hair follicle begins to grow, the pore becomes enlarged and inflamed. These inflamed spots are called comedones or “pimples.” There are many types of comedones/pimples and cystic pimples are pus-filled bumps that form deep within the skin.

V: How do we prevent them?

Acne is caused by increased oil production and the build up of dead skin cells and bacteria within pores so it is very important to be consistent with a skin care regimen that helps regulate oil on the skin, kills bacteria and increases cell turn over. I recommend using a cleanser with 2% salicylic acid to clear away the build up of dead cells and unclog pores. Followed by a toner that contains lactic, salicylic and glycolic acids to chemically exfoliate the skin and help dissolve sebum (oil) with clogged pores. Using a product that contains between 2.5-5% of benzoyl peroxide on acne prone areas of your skin will kill bacteria causing acne helping to heal active acne breakouts and prevent new ones from forming.
Oil production can be increased by hormonal shifts and stress so incorporating stress-relieving activities (ie: yoga, meditation, bubble bath) is also very helpful. Exercise, eating a healthy diet and getting plenty of sleep also help to prevent acne breakouts by reducing inflammation and boosting your immune system.

V: How do we cure these pesky pimples?

UD: Cystic acne typically needs to be treated with topical or oral antibiotics, hormonal therapy or prescription strength retinoid (vitamin A). Do not attempt to extract cystic pimples because it can lead to severe scarring. If you have cystic acne it is important to seek medical attention from a skin care professional.

Our Summer 2017 Round-Up of The Best SPF Products You Need Now!

Our Summer 2017 Round-Up of The Best SPF Products You Need Now! NOW ON VERITE PUBLISHED --- SPF, Skincare, Beauty, Clean Beauty Products, Sunscreen, The Best Sunscreen, Anti-Aging, Preventative Beauty, Preventative Skincare, Violet Grey, Credo Beauty, Glossier, Aquaphore, Aveda, Haircare.… When we say you need them now, we basically mean before the sun comes up tomorrow! Summer 2017 is already kicking off with some steamy days, and some exciting sunscreen moments. The launch of Glossier’s self-proclaimed ‘sunscreen that doesn’t suck’ got us talking about our favorite sun protectors. So before you go chasing that sunrise, get educated with our round-up of the best SPF products, from lip protectants, to sunscreen for your hair. Go ahead, throw these in your shopping cart rn!

Eau Thermal Avène Antirougeures Day Redness Relief Soothing Cream SPF 25
It’s what the French girls wear… or at least that’s what Violet Grey tells us (and we will literally believe anything they say). Not only does it prevent further redness but it also helps repair any damage that already exists. This SPF is to be included in your morning routine — after you sip your pour over, and before you apply your makeup. C’est bon! We swear.

Kari Gran Three Sixty Five SPF 28
You need a product that is UVA and UVB resilient to keep your skin looking young and fresh. Kari Gran’s serum is brimming with clean ingredients that will ensure your derm. is in the best hands. If you are more a fan of a gel serum than a cream, this one’s for you!

Glossier Invisible Shield SPF 35
You’ve surely heard that Glossier joined in the SPF game, and we welcome with open arms. Reasons to love include the fact that it is not the white layer we are used to wiping on, but a clear gel formula that sits transparently on your skin. It also acts as a shield to pollution, and harmful elements. Our Summer 2017 Round-Up of The Best SPF Products You Need Now! NOW ON VERITE PUBLISHED --- SPF, Skincare, Beauty, Clean Beauty Products, Sunscreen, The Best Sunscreen, Anti-Aging, Preventative Beauty, Preventative Skincare, Violet Grey, Credo Beauty, Glossier, Aquaphore, Aveda, Haircare.

L’Oreal Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition Facial Oil SPF 30
We are hardly quiet about our obsession with facial oils. Our bathroom shelves are littered with all shapes and sizes, but this one stands alone in its ability to guard. Mixing eight essential oils with an SPF 30 is the perfect morning rub down your pores need. Have no fear, it’s grease clear!

Aquaphore Lip Protectant + Sunscreen

Aquaphore is practically a religion in these parts. When we stumbled across the lip protectant + sunscreen (SPF 30 that is), we nearly had an existential crisis — what is life? We’ve recovered and suggest you keep a tube of these in each of your purses. Lips are such magnets for itty-bitty wrinkles that can be caused by harsh exposure, and a lack of moisture. Two birds, one magical tube.

Suntegrity Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 for Body

While our faces seem to take top priority, we must not forget the ultra-sensitive skin such as our décolletage and that thin skin on the backs of our hands. A body SPF isn’t a bad idea for those of us in geographically-clothing-oposed areas of the world. Suntegirty is great because it’s non-greasy, Paraben, Phthalate and Mineral Oil Free.

Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil

The most overlooked place that sun can get its harmful little grasp on us is our scalp! Those rays can just as easily damage our tresses as it can our pores, so be sure to spritz some of this Aveda sun care when exposing to heat to scare off dryness, and breakage.
