Feng Shui For Dating: A Bedroom That Manifests Love.

Simply stated, the ancient art form of feng shui is two-fold: welcoming beautiful energy into your life, and making it feel at home. When you walk into a space and feel an immediate sense of reverence — that’s feng shui. It’s powerful. And it’s communicated thru the language of metaphor, with our homes as metaphors for our (love) lives. If walls could talk, what would they say about your dating life?

As I continually refine my feng shui practice, subtlety reigns; more sensuality than suncatcher crystals. Chanel had it right when she declared, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.” Apply this to interiors, for open space is vital when manifesting change. Fresh energy needs a place to rest. Single friends (or those looking to ramp up an existing relationship) contemplate on how much space you have in your life, and for the focus of this article, your bedroom. If you were a guest, would you feel comfortable? A potential partner needs to sense that you have space for them, in all ways.

I remember someone telling me to always sleep in your own guest room. Now that I’m dating again post-divorce, I lost the guest room but kept the adage, and apply it thru the lens of romance. When I invite a man over, I want him to relax, lounge and leisure with me, get grounded, and feel open enough to bare his soul. I set up my house to reinforce these desires. What are your relationship desires? As you apply the following steps, infuse your intentions into each action. In feng shui, the ‘cure’ and the intention work in delightful tandem.

How to use feng shui to activate your bedroom for dating in six easy steps:

  1. Place your bed in a power position.

‘Power position’ is a feng shui term for the most beneficial placement of a high-use piece of furniture. For a bed, a power position entails:

  •  a solid wall behind the headboard
  • space to enter the bed from either side
  • a clear view of the bedroom door, without being in line with the doorway

Basically, position yourself so that no one can sneak up behind you, and you can see who is coming into the room. Considering the energy flow in such a manner leads to a feeling of safety, which translates into peaceful sleep. I’ve seen many a single sleeping with their bed pressed up against a wall. I ask them: “How is your lover supposed to get in and out? Over your sleeping body?” Not very considerate.

BONUS: Think fresh sheets for fresh action. Treat yourself to a new set of linens (or even pillowcases) for better juju.  Red is the color of passion, purple of abundance and green of growth…

  1. Clean under your bed.

You are literally sleeping with anything you keep under your bed. Think about that. If you keep old shoes there, then you are sleeping with those shoes — and with all of the places they have walked, all of the dirt they have acquired. Tax records, sleeping with them. Winter clothes, sleeping with them. Whatever is under the bed becomes activated as a metaphor in your love life; likely not the threesome you fantasize about. Keep it clean and clear under the bed, for better sleep, sex and dreaming.

  1. Choose matching bedside tables.

Equality in relationship is a beautiful goal. Set the mood for this equality to be revealed with matching bedside tables. Yes, it can be that simple! The tables should fit the look and scale of your bed. If a lamp is on one, a matching lamp should be on the other. For singles, I like to stack the deck by placing something symbolic on a future partner’s table: an empty notebook for the adventures you will write together or a book of erotic poetry.  And how about your side? Every surface has the potential to be an incognito altar.

BONUS: Minimize electronics (EMFs) beside the bed for healthier sleep. Charge your phone somewhere else at night.

  1. Remove mirrors that directly face the bed.

Mirrors bounce around energy and double what they reflect. Struggling with insomnia, nightmares or infidelity? Take down the mirror(s) facing your bed, or cover at night if removal is not an option. Go mirrorless for a more harmonious environment.

  1. Create room in your closet.

Okay, so your dream lover is chilling in bed, leaning against that solid wall and reading you erotic poetry: but where will they hang their hat? If dreamy weekends together sound nice, give your guy or gal a place to hang up a few items. Keep a handful of empty wooden hangers in your closet. I promise you will smile when you see these hangers, picturing the stylish mate en route to you.

BONUS: Do the same in your medicine cabinet.

  1. To be in a couple, decorate in pairs.

Look around your room, art included, and look for themes. A few years back I kept meeting men with whom I would really connect, only to learn that they were in an open relationship. I checked out my house. Sets of three were abound, which makes sense as a single mama with two sons. I remedied and the pattern stopped. As Aristotle stated, “the chief forms of beauty are order and symmetry.” Symmetry is pleasing to the eye, as well as to the heart. Add life with a pair of plants. Hang a painting of union. Get creative and embed happy twosomes around your bedroom.

To close, try this exercise with me to uncover your ‘Love Corner.’ Walk thru the doorway of your bedroom and go to the back right corner. What do you find here? Very telling! Love on this zone and place something symbolic here, or better yet, two somethings. But more on this in Feng Shui & Dating, Part Two: The Love Corner, coming soon.

21 Things You Need To Know About Birth Control!

21 Things You Need To Know About Birth Control! NOW ON VERITE PUBLISHED ---- Birth Control, Contraception, Is Birth control bad for you, Is the pill bad for you, women's health, method of birth control, BCP, ovary health, pill bleed, withdrawal bleeding, health, period, migraines, weight gain on birth control, what are hormones, wellness, skincare, acne, feminism.I was 15 when I first went on birth control. My female doctor — a family friend — prescribed me a pill and explained that sometimes it takes a few tries to find the right brand for you. “Don’t be alarmed if you have bleeding between periods,” she added “It’s natural.” That’s all she explained, nothing less, nothing more. My body changed after I began my prescription, but I was fifteen, so wasn’t it supposed to be changing? Soon, I was blessed with a massive chest for my 95 lb frame. I never really knew if it was the pill or just a physical miracle, but I figured it rude to question God’s blessings, so I looked no further for reason. From that time on I took my little pink pills diligently until I hit the age of 24, and with a gut feeling decided I no longer wanted to be pumping my body with whatever this minuscule tab contained. That large chest? Diminished within a year to a more manageable size, and a few other side effects seemed to right themselves. Still then, I knew nothing of the truth, risks, side effects of the birth control pill and maybe you don’t either. That’s why we figured we would delve deep into the research and facts about all the things the doctor doesn’t tell us about our contraception of choice. We aren’t here to determine what is best for you when it comes to your sex life, and protection but we feel it necessary to provide a penetrating look at what your body could be in for, so you can make an educated decision.21 Things You Need To Know About Birth Control! NOW ON VERITE PUBLISHED ---- Birth Control, Contraception, Is Birth control bad for you, Is the pill bad for you, women's health, method of birth control, BCP, ovary health, pill bleed, withdrawal bleeding, health, period, migraines, weight gain on birth control, what are hormones, wellness, skincare, acne, feminism.

  1. In the U.S. alone, women are spending upwards of $1,000 on the pill each year. When you think about how much the pharmaceutical companies that produce these brands of birth control are making off of our ovaries, it makes sense that they tap us in at a young age — contraception is an economy in itself — the global contraceptive market was valued at an estimated $19 billion in 2015.
  2. Since this form of contraception became popularized in the 1960s’ it has been sold to women as a cure-all for those being plagued with acne, irregular menstrual cycles, PMS, and of course warding off unwanted pregnancies. The terrifying part of all of this is that the research behind this pill doesn’t support an actual solution for these issues, rather you are finding a temporary fix. When you decide to stop taking the pill women often find things like cystic acne returning in full force. Instead, we should be finding natural ways to remedy these issues like getting to the true root of your skin problems with your dermatologist, or finding what vitamins your body might be low on that’s leading to crazy PMS!
  3. Hormones are a big part of the whole birth control shtick. Hormones are released from your endocrine glands and send messages through your body such as when you’re hungry, tired, horny. The hormones in birth control pills however are not like the ones naturally produced in your body — these are synthetic!
  4. Birth control works by blasting your system with these synthetic hormones to trick your body into not releasing an egg during ovulation. However because they aren’t organic to your body they are not sending true messages and things can get lost in translation leading to mood swings or physical side effects.
  5. The blood that is released during your cycle on birth control is not actually a period! This is an insane fact right? It is actually called pill bleeding or withdrawal bleeding and is your body’s reaction to a withdrawal from the pills hormones while you’re taking your placebos. Periods are a very necessary and healthy indicator of what your body and reproductive system is trying to tell you, so imagine how disconnected you are from what’s really going on inside of yourself when you aren’t receiving a true period or your body isn’t able to secrete it’s necessary/natural menstruation.
  6. In conjunction with #5, the spotting that you are warned of when the doctor first prescribes you birth control, and which you may receive from time to time is also a form of pill bleeding. This is not natural to a normal cycle, and is a side effect of this form of contraception.
  7. Birth control company’s have one huge downfall — the days in which you take your placebo pills during your time of the month are when your body has a break from these synthetic hormones and are the most likely to lead to unplanned pregnancy.
  8. In Scotland a study was taken of 2,700 birth control pill users that revealed a shocking reality. One third of the group were under the guise that the pill works by killing spermatozoa (sperm) and that’s why one does not get pregnant. However, as we stated above it works by halting ovulation.
  9. Birth control works in a two pronged attack. It stops ovulation in its tracks, yes, but it also thickens the mucus that is released vaginally when one has intercourse so that the sperm cannot get any further on its journey.
  10. Once you’ve gotten the hang of your pill, you soon realize it can do this fun thing where if you do not stop taking the hormonal pills during your period you can skip it all together. While it seems like a perk, this is actually terribly unhealthy for your young body that needs to cleanse, and detox itself organically.
  11. In a scary finding, the Susan G. Komen Foundation reports that “A pooled analysis of data from more than 50 studies found that while women were taking birth control pills (and shortly thereafter), they had a 10 to 30 percent higher risk of breast cancer than women who had never used the pill. Once women stopped taking the pill, their risk began to decrease and after about 10 years, returned to that of women who have never taken the pill.”
  12. Whilst taking oral contraception one can find themselves facing various nutrition deficiencies. Commonly women are in need of folic acid, vitamin B, Magnesium (something women naturally don’t get enough of), Zinc, Folate, and Vitamin C. We often don’t realize they’re missing because, yep you guessed it, those damn synthetic hormones didn’t send the right messages through our body to give us the 411!
  13. In continuation of the above, this can lead to an unhealthy pregnancy or even miscarriage due to your body’s inability to be a healthy, nutritional accommodation for a baby.
  14.  Those nasty synthetic hormones can increase the chances of blood clotting in women. How? The faux estrogen and progestin in the hormones can increase the bloods clotting components making you more at risk.
  15. Alright, this one’s a terrifying tidbit of research but here we go: According to Dr. Sarah Gottfried, three-time New York Times bestselling author and gynecologist, the synthetic hormones in birth control pills can shrink the clitoris by 20% caused by the decrease in testosterone in your body once on the pill.
  16. Those faulty hormones can also increase your risk of depression due to mixed signals being sent to your brain.
  17. Birth control can hurt your dental health too! A 2007 study shows that, “Current users of oral contraceptives had poorer periodontal health.”
  18. It can lead to serious weight gain. Through both messing with your hunger levels and causing heightened water retention your little pill can make you feel very large.
  19. Studies show that the pill leads to women more frequently experiencing migraines.
  20. Being prescribed the pill while breast feeding can lead to passing on some detrimental symptoms to your little one. All those fake hormones, and side effects could set your babe up for a life of side effects.
  21. When it is time to jump off the pill and you are ready to make a baby you may find it difficult. After years of messing with your ovulation, those ovaries have the potential to become lazy and unmotivated to do what they were built to.

The Power of Awareness

Neville Goddard, a man not from our time, was brilliant beyond his years. However, his knowledge is still relevant to us. Neville (he preferred to be called by his first name only) shows us how a change in consciousness is critical for life as consciousness is the only reality. Beware that this book refers a lot to religious text, but the way Neville breaks it down and explains it allows for so much clarity through the ambiguity.

You’ll See It When You Believe It: The Way to Your Personal Transformation

Dr. Wayne Dyer has blessed us with many of books, all of them bringing enlightenment. This specific book provides tools for personal transformation and attracting abundance into your life, essentially teaching us what the title depicts.

The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (A Toltec Wisdom Book)

An all time classic book — one that you can reread over and over throughout your life. If you are new to the wellness section of the book store, may we suggest you start this one. The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship: A Toltec Wisdom Book

Ruiz, through the Toltec wisdom, elaborates on human relationships and how to integrate this awareness into everyday life. Like his infamous book, The Four Agreements, this is an easy read that makes so much sense. You will wonder why you didn’t read this sooner.

The I That Is We: Awakening to Higher Energies Through Unconditional Love

This is the book that will fall into your lap when you need it the most. Richard Ross discusses individual and collective energy and how group energies can be shaped to transform and heal. This book is about awakening to higher consciousness. Areas of physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of transformation are at the center of attention.

Solar Light, Lunar Light: Perspectives in Human Consciousness

This review pretty much sums up everything you need to know about Howard Teich’s brilliant book…

“The perception that masculine and feminine traits represent oppositional forces has contributed to a long history of personal and cultural dysfunctions. Through a skillful interweaving of modern psychology, mythology and ancient history, Howard Teich, PhD offers a thought provoking thesis that these polarizing traits are actually cooperative partners in evolution’s dynamic dance. Solar Light, Lunar Light is a healing journey that encourages readers to transcend misperceived limitations so that we may write a new empowering chapter in human evolution.”

Is This The Ultimate Secret To Body Positivity?

Is This The Ultimate Secret To Body Positivity? NOW ON VERITE PUBLISHED -- How to have confidence, self love, body love, self esteem, health, nudity. It’s a ritual we’ve always been happy to take part in, yet never quite had a name for until stumbling across the enthralling documentary about the life of Betty Page — Betty Page Reveals All. As seemingly the Queen of all things #bodypositive, Page let us in on her little secret: Air Bathing. While not to be confused with the act of taking a bath en plein air, we are talkin’ a straight up hangout with just yourself, and your lady bits.
Why it works? Studies have shown spending more time with yourself in the nude familiarizes you with its entirety, and allows you to grow accustomed to, and maybe move past things that may have bothered you when only meeting them eye to eye in that unflattering photo that never left your psyche. You may also find solutions for the things that do resonate with you in a negative way, just by creating this communication with your figure. It is also a ritual of self-love, to give time that you may often forget to provide in your hectic everyday. Spend this time saying or thinking nice things towards your body. Admire it. Thank it for what it’s given you. As a team of practiced Air Bathers (mind you, not together), we can support the argument that it does in fact lead to a higher rate of confidence in our bodies and and happiness with our overall presence. Once you love your own form, you want to fight for it to be respected — we can’t think of anything more beautiful than this.

Is This The Ultimate Secret To Body Positivity? NOW ON VERITE PUBLISHED -- How to have confidence, self love, body love, self esteem, health, nudity.

Our Guide to Air Bathing:
We often schedule in an Air Bathing sess. after a shower when we have set aside some time to chill. While our moisturizer soaks in and our hair is still twisted in its towel-turban, we light our favorite candles,  burn some palo santo ( cleanse away the bad feelings you might have toward your bod) and disconnect from all electronics. Make this your time to meditate, tidy your space, or pick up a good feminist read.
This ritual can be as long or short as you like, but we do suggest at very least 20 minutes, a few times weekly. That might sound indulgent for busy girls, but what’s more important than yourself?
